Open data on Places pages

Daremeet Places pages (population, area) rely on open public data. This page documents sources, methodology, and the list of French municipalities covered — without republishing raw INSEE files.

37 French municipalities listed (INSEE code + Melodi API).

Municipal population — INSEE via Melodi API

For each French city below, we query the Melodi API (dataset DS_POPULATIONS_REFERENCE, PMUN measure) using the 5-character INSEE municipality code (e.g. 75056 for Paris, 33063 for Bordeaux). The population shown is the latest vintage returned by the API, with an “INSEE (population census)” source label on the city page.

Area — Wikidata (supplement)

When area is not already set, we may supplement it from Wikidata (property P2046), with the source shown on the page. Density is computed at display time when both population and area are available.
